According to report, following a tip off on the movement of UGs, a team of BSF personnel were lying in wait along the road near Nongada Shantipur Dam at around 9.20 pm yesterday when a Manindra Jeep came along that side.

When the BSF personnel tried to stop the Jeep, the armed occupants opened fire at the security personnel prompting them to retaliate.

After the exchange of firing which continued till 11.30 pm ceased, the BSF personnel searched the area and found the Jeep in a road side drain with three occupants, two of whom were clad in camouflage uniform while the other suspected to be the driver shot dead inside.

One AK-56 Rifles, three magazines loaded with 64 live rounds of ammunition, one lethod bomb launcher, five live bombs and two Chinese made hand grenades were recovered from the possession of the UGs.

Further search of the bodies also led to recovery of one driving license, one residential identity card and numerous other incriminating documents.

The driving license was issued in the name of one Yambem Shashikumar Singh of Khundrakpam Awang Leikai while the residential I-Card was certified him as the oil filler of Airtel Tower.

The DIG suspected that over and above the three slain UGs another UG may have been injured and escaped.

All three of them were wearing jackets.

But one more jacket has been recovered with bullet holes.

So another UG may have been escaped after being shot at, he reasoned.

BSF is a force that respect the Indian Constitutional provisions of equality, liberty and fraternity, he added.
