Imphal, March 07, 2010: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has conceded that bullet injuries suffered by Advocate General (AG) Nongmeikappam Koteshwar Singh was due to accidental firing from the licensed weapon of one of the two Ministers who were travelling together with the AG.

AG Koteshwar is currently undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital, langol with injuries on the right arm and side of chest from a single shot of a small firearm.

The AG, along with works Minister K Ranjit and Tribal Development Minister DD Thaisii, was returning from Ukhrul district after attenting a public function there and the incident happened last evening at lamlai area on the way back to Imphal.

As per comment of the Chief Minister, who visited the private medical centre today to inquire on the AG's condition, the incident was 'most unfortunate'.

Even though the CM disclosed that injuries caused to the AG was due to accidental firing from the licensed arm of one of the Minister, he declined to name the Minister concerned.

It is informed that Ranjit attended the seed sowing festival of the Tangkhuls at Hungpung Haokok in place of the Chief Minister, due to latter's engagement in another programme.

When queried whether the incident would be investigated, O Ibobi replied in the negative with the assertion that the Minister concerned had confessed to have erred and as such the question of ordering probe is irrelevant.

K Ranjit and DD Thaisii also accompanied the CM to Shija Hospital.

DGP Y Joykumar was also present there.

Speaking to newspersons, Managing Director of Shija hospital and Research Institute Dr Kh Palin said N Koteshwar is out of danger but would need further treatment of the injured arm.

Informing that the AG was brought to Shija Hospital late last night, Dr Palin also said CT scan has revealed that two projectiles were stuck.

He also explained that a single shot hit the AG's right arm with a projectile fragment penetrating the area of contact and rupturing the rib bone.

The Managing Director said an operation was conducted this morning with successful removal of both projectiles and restoration of the arm bone.

He, however, said as a nerve on the right arm had been ruptured, mobility of the AG's arm would be impaired till the same is completedly cured.

Meanwhile, shortly after the firing incident local womenfolk lodged a complaint at Lamlai police station that shots fired from a vehicle with security escorts targeted Health Minister Ph parijat's private residence.
