Imphal, December 02 2008: Thirteen days after being on a cease work strike to protest the gunning down of Imphal Free Press junior-sub-editor, Konsam Rishinkanta by unidentified gunmen on November 17 at Langol as well as to pursue the demand to institute a judicial inquiry into the murder, journalists under the aegis of the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union, returned to work today following the decision of the Cabinet to rope in the service of the CBI to investigate the case.

Demanding a judicial inquiry as well as in protest against the killing of Rishikanta, the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union launched the cease work strike from November 19 .

Stating that the agitation has been suspended, AMWJU in a statement said that the decision was taken following an intimation from the Government that the Cabinet has decided to hand over the case to the CBI yesterday.

An order issued to this effect was delivered to AMWJU yesterday.

The Union has also expressed its gratitude to all the civil society organisations for their solidarity and expressed regret over the inconveniences caused to the public due to suspension of publication.

AMWJU also expressed hope that everyone would continue to extend co-operation in the future too.

On the other hand the notification issued by the Home Department of the State Government in connection with handing the case to the CBI said that it has consented to the extension of the powers and jurisdiction of the Members of the Delhi Special Police Establishment to the whole of the State to investigate the case relating to the killing of Konsam Rishikanta (22) son of K Budhichandra of Ningomthong Sairom Leirak, Imphal.
