PM calls meeting on Oct 8 to discuss NH 53 issue

Imphal, October 01: The Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee has called a meeting to discuss about the national highway no 53 on October 8.The decision was taken after a series of talks.

The delegation led by the Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi and UCM leaders discussed the matter along with the Prime Minister, Dy Prime Minister, MOS Surface Transport Minister Gen Khanduri.

The delegation also discussed the matter with the Nagaland Chief Minister SC Jamir yesterday.

O Ibobi CM of Manipur, PWD officials on behalf of the state government and Gen Khanduri MOS Surface Transport, officials of his ministry, Border Road Organization officials will participate in the meeting.

The Surface Transport ministry will discuss the matter on October 4.The Chief Minister also discussed the matter today along with Gen Khanduri.

Th Chaoba MP was also present in the meeting.

The need for taking up works on national highway no 53 was also considered.

Gen Khanduri said due to shortage of security personnel on the highway the BRTF is not able to take up works on the national highway no 53.He reportedly suggested that a good contractor or an agency should be assigned the work.

Manipur Government suggested that the Engineering Corps of the Indian army should be assigned the task of taking up works from Nungba to Jiribam.

The Chief Minister also urged the centre to improve the conditions of other roads in Manipur.

Khanduri assured that there will be no shortage of fund.

The UCM delegation is not yet able to meet the Prime Minister so far.

The UCM leaders are camping in the capital to pursue the case of national highway no 53 which is in a bad shape now.

Two bridges are on the brink of falling any moment now.
