MLA ired by Patsoi OC's 'high headedness', demands action

Imphal, June 08 2011: A heated verbal confrontation erupted today between Patsoi MLA, Sapam Kunjakeshwor and OC of the Patsoi PS over the matter of improvement work taken up on the road connecting Langjing and Iroishemba in Imphal West district.

The confrontation erupted when OC, Premchand reportedly detained trucks transporting stones for road improvement works along with some workers of the MLA around 11 am today and when MLA Kunjakeshwor (Keba) went to ask the reasons behind the detention.

Unhappy with the "high headedness" of the police officer, the MLA has demanded placing him under suspension from the service and to take up disciplinary action.

The MLA said that he has taken up the road improvement work for the inter-village road with money from his own pocket considering the inconveniences cause to the people by the deteriorated condition of the road.

The work started four days back.

But the OC detained the trucks and men who were sent to overlook the working, Kunjakeshwor said adding that when he inquired about the reason behind the detention at the Patsoi PS, the OC informed him that he had detained them on the advice of the higher authority.

The officer further asked why the improvement work was being taken up without a work order from the competent authority.

The MLA said, the OC even unbuttoned the holster of his service revolver, and that he was unsatisfied with the attitude shown by the police officer towards an elected member of the state Assembly.

Such "high headedness" of the police officer should be dealt seriously leaving aside the differences of political parties.

He should not be protected by political influence, the MLA demanded.

Regarding the initiative, he had taken for the improvement of the road the MLA asserted that he knew that there is a work plan for improvement of the road connecting NH 150 with NH 53 from Chagangei Tabungkhong to Iroisemba Chingjin, passing Langjing Achouba, with ' 21.35 crore to be sanctioned by the Union ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

The state government had furnished a Detail Project Report (DPR) of the proposal and is waiting clearance from the Centre.

But, as it will take time to get the sanction, he had taken the initiative to improve the road stretch, the MLA asserted.
