Ningthou Kangba remembered

Ningthou Kangba Khupham SinLup has held a ceremony commemorating Ningthou (King) Kangba, who is believed to have invented Sagol Kangjei (Polo), today at Kangnung (Kangmong) in Imphal West.
King Kangba (1405-1359) BC was the ruler of the then Manipur.
Art and Culture Minister L Jayentakumar Singh, Chairman Tourism Corporation of Manipur Ltd MLA Konthoujam AC Dr S Ranjan Singh, MLA Keirao AC M Rameshwor Meitei, Commissioner of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur M Lakshmikumar Singh, Director Art and Culture Ng Uttam Singh, Yarou Bamdiar ZP member Samom Manglembi and Pradhan Kangmong GP Thangjam Thoiba attended the event as presidium members.
Dignitaries and members of the organising Lup paid floral tributes at the memorial site and offered ritual prayers, reports our correspondent.
President of the Historical and Art and Culture Centre Imphal Naoroibam Indramani spoke at the event as resource persons.
A mythological history book titled "Ningthou Kangba" was also released at the event.
Speaking at the event, L Jayentakumar emphasised the importance and need to trace the origin and identity of the forefathers.
Tracing our ancestors help us better understand ourselves and our identity, he said.
Because of the gifts our ancestors has left for us, we are able to live with pride as Manipuri, he apprised.
Considering the historical importance and need for preservation of the memorial site, the State Government is working to bring the site under the Historical and Monument Act, he said.
