UNLF apologises, seeks forgiveness

Imphal, December 29 2012: While accepting its mistake in identifying the two Tangkhul civilians who were shot dead at a jungle near Kongkan village in Ukhrul district, the proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has sought forgiveness from the Tangkhul community.

In a statement, UNLF informed that a team of MPA's fighting patrol party has been stationing in the area for the last two days to attack AR personnel whose post is located at Konkan village.

Unfortunately, the two victims, K Kumar and K Ramsung came there along with their friends with arms and in army uniform with hats.

Seeing them approaching, the MPA team mistook them as AR personnel and shot them.

When they realised the mistake, they stopped firing and apologised to the surviving companion.

Then they requested him to guide the way back to their base camp and let him go.

Though the involved MPA had reported the incident to their base on radio, they have not yet reached the base unit.

Nonetheless, UNLF Central Committee would be taking up appropriate action against the MPA after investigation and deliver justice to the victims, the statement assured.

The statement mentioned that UNLF Central Committee has taken full responsibility of the mistake committed and apologised to the families of the two innocent victims and the whole Tangkhul community.

It also stated that UNLF shared the grief and sorrow of the family members of the deceased victims and appealed to allow them in helping the families of the two victims from the side of UNLF.
