Authorities call for concerted efforts

CCpur, March 26 2020: Even as the District Administration is working in full swing to tackle novel coronavirus (Covid-19) menace in the district, the State Government authority has appealed the public to extend maximum cooperation in the collective fight against coronavirus on day-2 of the Nationwide lockdown.

Meanwhile, Additional Chief Secretary Suhel Akhtar and Principal Secretary P Vaiphei visited the district to take stock of the situation and inspected the notified quarantine centres located at Bijang.

The two officials also chaired a review meeting with the district DC, SP, CMO and SDOs.

Addressing pressmen later at the DC's Conference Hall, DC office Tuibong here, P Vaiphei said that the Nationwide lockdown, which is first of its kind in modern-day, is announced for the safety of the public.

Terming the incident of the chaotic state of affairs, where people arbitrarily came out defying the lockdown call, witnessed in the town and other places this morning as 'unfortunate', P Vaiphei urged the people of Churachandpur including the philanthropic organisations to observe and enforce the Nationwide lockdown in its true spirit and never indulge in activities that could defeat the purpose of lockdown.

He appealed the people to follow the orders and directives issued by the health authority and administration in this regard for the larger interest of the society.

"The district administration is also planning to supply rations to the public in a planned manner.

If and when such plans are executed, the people should extend maximum cooperation to the authority for smooth distribution and take only the amount they need or are entitled to," he said while also urging the people not to be self-centric and trigger unnecessary panic.

Stressing on the need to maintain strict discipline by all concerned including CSOs during testing times such as this, P Vaiphei urged the people to get their necessities in an organised way and without any panic.

Saying that the 21-day lockdown and curfew are imposed to flatten the curve of infection, which if not checked could result in an exponential spread, he underlined that it would be a disaster of unprecedented scale if most of the people get infected simultaneously.

He also cited examples of high fatality rate in other places/countries.

P Vaiphei then appealed the public to strictly follow safety rules like washing of hands with soap for at least 30 sec, social distancing, maintenance of personal hygiene and not trying to visit or mingle with persons who are quarantined.

He also urged social media users to refrain from spreading unverified new.

Speaking on the occasion, Pawan Yadav, the district Deputy Commissioner said that Covid-19 is an imminent threat for all of us and people of all hues must follow certain precautions which are issued time to time by the district administration.

He said that unless the people extend maximum cooperation, the efforts will go in vain.

He urged the public to maintain social distancing at every place like ATM booths, markets, etc.

It may be mentioned here that as part of the slew of measures taken up by the district administration in its fight against COVID-19 menace, the DC has written to all philanthropic organisations and Village Authorities in the district seeking their active cooperation in the fight against the threat.

On the other hand, the ADC Churachandpur today called for a united effort from one and all to combat COVID-19 with the CEO issuing an order to regulate essential commodities and the Chairman issuing a statement saying the health and safety of its citizens is a priority of paramount for the Council.

The CEO said all essential commodities should be sold at its fair and legal price and directed shop owners dealing in petroleum products, cooking gas, medical items and all other items specified by the State and Central Governments under the ambit of Disaster Management Act 2005 to submit their stock positions.

The ADC Chairman also issued a separate statement assuring the best efforts of the local administration to ensure the health and safety of its citizens.

It further encouraged the public to not panic saying, fear can do more harm than the virus itself.

The Chairman went on to assure the public that the Government is doing its best to ensure that essential commodities are within the reach of the common man and for this, it seeks trust on the leaders the people have chosen.

Meanwhile, the district authorities have reportedly impounded several bags of subsidised rice that made it to the open market today.
