Ukhrul villages quarantined, shops and business establishments remain shut

Ukhrul, March 26 2020:
Following information that people suspected to have come in contact with the COVID-19 patient, visited and stopped at Teinem village, before reaching Seikhor village of Ukhrul district on March 21, the District Magistrate of Ukhrul, Joseph Pauline Kamson, issued a prohibitory order on March 24 directing the two villages to be quarantined.
The order also directed the concerned individuals to report to Ukhrul District Hospital immediately for necessary quarantine.

The order prohibited the residents of Teinem and Seikhor villages from moving out and instead instructed them to remain in isolation under home quarantine to ensure the safety and well being of the villagers. According to reports from CMO of Ukhrul Dr Kapangring, three individuals were quarantined in Ukhrul District hospital while over 150 persons who came from outside Manipur, were home quarantined to ensure their well being and prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the district.
Control Room, Ukhrul district Hospital is monitoring them, regularly updating on their health conditions and further took the survey records of every new comers in the district, he explained.
Dr Kapangring also mentioned that the safest means to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is to maintain social distance and also to stay at home.
With the widespread reports of the native people returning from metro cities to their respective villages, the many of the village authorities in Ukhrul district have prohibited visitors from coming inside indefinitely.
As a measure to spread awareness on personal hygiene looking after the COVID-19 pandemic, Phungyo Baptist Church, Tangrei, installed a hand wash.
On the other hand, Ukhrul police have been deployed across the town and some strategic points to check unnecessary public movement.
Public announcements were also made through mikes across instructing the people to remain indoor, to refrain from public gathering during the lock down.
The fear of the pandemic was also felt greatly in Ukhrul town as it bore a deserted look with all shops and business establishments remaining shut.
The situation was made more grim by the lack of vehicles on the roads as all vehicular activities have been suspended from March 21 with the enforcement of total lock down due to the pandemic.
