Asiad canoeing and kayaking athletes feted

State athletes who were in the Indian Canoeing and Kayaking team at the recently concluded Asian Games were given a warm welcome today by All Manipur Canoeing and Kayaking Association at the residence of Jotin Waikhom, president All Manipur Canoeing and Kayaking Association, at Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai.
Jotin Waikhom in his speech expressed satisfaction over State players who made to the Indian team for the games and said representing the country from a small State like Manipur is itself a great achievement.
15 players from Manipur namely, Chingching Arambam, Naocha Laitonjam, Jamesboy Oinam, Sunil Salam, Kiran Singh Moirangthem, Heisnam Nganba Meitei, Thajamanbi Chanu, Sarju Devi Kojenbam, Yumnam Shamashakhi Devi, Dimita Devi Toijam, Oinam Yaiphabi Devi, Sushila Chanu Shoibam, Soniya Devi Phairembam, Meena Devi Larshram and Inaocha M were part of one of the largest contingents at the games which entered 8 final rounds of various events.
Stating that acclimatization problems among the players in Indonesia was a major factor that hinders medal performance, he urged all players to work harder for better performances in the future events.
He also said that the association is expecting to hold a canoeing and kayaking championship by 2020 and stressed on the need of producing more players.
He also stated that discipline is prerequisite to success in every field.
He continued to say that games and sports help one refrain from all kinds of intoxicants.
The players were also presented simple presents on the occasion in recognition of their efforts.
