IE clinch title of Governor's Cup Fencing

Imphal, August 26 2024: Imphal East district wrested the title of the 20th Governor's Cup State Level Fencing Championship 2024 with total haul of 89 medals including 28 gold and 23 silver.

On the final day of the championship at YAS Fencing Hall, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex on Monday, L Chinglembi (Imphal East), Henthoisana (Chandel), T Kadamba (Imphal East), Th Kishorjit (Imphal East), Rash-ina N (Imphal West), Piyanganbi N (Imphal East) and A Florina (Imphal East) defeated respective opponents to bag the gold medals.

In junior girls' epee event, L Chinglembi beat Dibiya N (Imphal East) 15-9 while Henthoisana edged past Lamyanba (imphal East) 15-14 for the sub-junior boys' foil title as T Kadamba defeated P Arjun (Imphal East) 15-10 in sub-junior boys' final and Th Kishorjit outplayed Lanchenba N (Imphal East) 15-11 en-route to the sub-junior boys' sabre crown.

Rashina N, meanwhile, outsmarted Ch Puspa (Imphal East) 15-9 in sub-junior girls' foil final, Piyanganbi overcame Minerva Y (Imphal West) 10-9 in sub-junior girls' epee and A Florina cruised past N Nirupama (imphal East) 15-11 in sub-junior girls' sabre summit round.

The Hijam Shyama Devi runners-up trophy was awarded to Imphal West, which secured 60 medals.
