Riding on a fine 66 runs from 87 balls not out ESU defeated YWC (P) by 6 wickets in the 1st Plate Cricket Tournament aty Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium, Luwangshangbam today.
On winning the toss, ESU put in YWC to bat and this paid off as their frontline bowlers managed to run through the batting line up of YWC (P) .
Premananda of ESU led the charge scalping three wickets, while Sankar and Surjit contributed with two valuable wickets each.
With the ESU bowlers maintaining a tight line and length, the YWC (P) bowlers found it difficult to read the pace and direction of the ball to fold up for 99 runs in 25 overs.
Except for Samar who managed to dig in his heels and put up a good fight with a score of 44 off 70 balls, none of the other batsmen were able to rise to the occasion.
Instead of treating the ball with merit, the others went for some rash batting and this undid them.
The only other notable contribution came from the blade of Ronald who made 17 runs off only 15 balls.
With the bowlers of ESU doing their work well, the innings of YWC (P) folded up at 99 in 25 overs.
Set a modest target of 100 runs, the batsmen of ESU tore apart the attack of YWC (P) from the first ball, with Sankar leading the way with 66 runs off 87 balls not out.
He was ably supported by Herojit who made a quick fire 19 runs off only 18 balls.
For the YWC bowlers, only Santosh managed to shine picking up four wickets, but that was not enough as ESU reached their target of 100 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 27.1 overs.
For his contribution with the bat and scoring 66 runs, Sankar was adjudged the man of the match.
