2nd T-20 Manipur Veteran cricket tourney : IWVCC ride on Bashanta's knock to down UCC

Imphal, February 26 2014 : Riding on a blistering 59 runs off 52 balls from Bashanta and notable contributions with the bat from the others, IWVCC downed UCC by 54 runs in the 2nd T-20 Manipur Veteran Cricket tournament today.

IWVCC read the pitch right in selecting to bat on winning the toss and from the word go, Bashanta went on the offensive punishing the loose balls with huge hits to the boundary and stealing the quick singles and twos to come up with a scintillating score of 59 runs off 52 balls, not out.

The other batsmen of IWVCC also chipped in with valuable runs, with Jinendra scoring a quick fire 24 runs off 17 balls, Roni 18 runs off 23 balls and Samatkumar 8 runs off 6 balls to notch up a total of 156 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.

With the wicket not offering much help, the bowlers of UCC had to go the extra mile and L Surjit and Hakim did well to scalp two wickets each while Pradeep and Macmohan chipped in with one wicket each.

Set a somewhat formidable target of 157, the UCC batsmen did try to dig in their heels but with the pitch crumbling, the bowlers of IWVCC managed to extract bounce and swing to regularly send the batsmen back to the dressing room.

Romio led the run chase with 27 runs off 28 balls followed by H Surjit with 20 runs off 34 balls and L Surjit who came out with a breezy knock of 10 runs off only 5 runs.

The bowlers of IWVCC however kept a tight line and length with Sanatkumar, Roni, Bungobi returning with figures of 2 wickets each while Janaranjan and Bashanta scalped one wicket each to bowl out UCC for 102 runs for the loss of 8 wickets and emerge winners by 54 runs.

For his quick fire 59 runs off 52 balls and for picking up one crucial wicket, Bashanta was adjudged the man of the match.
