Imphal, February 26 2014 :
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has said that the State Government is looking into the matter of relaxing the upper age limit of candidates in Combined Manipur Civil Services Examination-2014 to be conducted by Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) .
He was replying to a Matter of Public Interest Motion raised by MLA Dr I Ibohalbi during the third sitting of 7th Session of 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly today.
Chief Minister Ibobi further said that there has been a prolonged ban on recruitment of State Government employees.
In order to give opportunities to those age-barred educated unemployed youths, the Government is considering extension of upper age limit of candidates in State civil services examination this year from 30 to 35 years for general, 33 to 38 years for OBC, 35 to 40 for SC/ST, up to 45 years for orthopedically handicapped and up to 50 years for visually impaired candidates.
He also stated that the Government would also consider relaxation of upper age limit in the recruitment examinations of other departments.
The State Government has lifted the ban and started recruitment in Health, Education and Home Departments.
But, some departments are now facing shortage of staff due to such ban, Ibobi noted.
While raising the motion, MLA Dr Ibohalbi said that many educated people of the State have been deprived of job opportunities due to the ban on recruitment.
The ban is still imposed in almost all departments of State Government except Health, Education and Home.
The Government should better extend the upper age limit of candidates appearing in the State Civil Services examination this year in order to give an opportunity to those age-barred candidates, he added.
