WUYC claim 22nd Senior State Basketball title

WUYC, Wangkhei Angom Leikai emerged champions of the 22nd Senior State Basketball Championship organised by Manipur Basketball Association at Brahmapur Nahabam Basketball Court.
WUYC, Wangkhei Angom Leikai which were lagging behind CYLC, Chingamathak in the earlier proceedings, grew stronger as the game progressed and sealed a narrow but deserving 62-59 win for the title.
WUYC were 9 points behind in the first quarter as CYLC took a 17-8 lead.
It was 29-22 in favour of CYLC in the second quarter but WUYC made a concerted effort and managed a 42-42 draw at the end of the third quarter before sealing the game 62-59.Shankar led the scoring for the Wangkhei Angom Leikai side with a total of 18 points in his name while Suraj and Marken Dev followed up with 14 and 11 points each.
Viking Salam (9 points), Dilipkumar (5 points), Agu (4 points) and Winnie (1 point) also made their best to earn WUYC the championship title.
N Jackson emerged best scorer for CYLC making a total of 13 points while S Bishwanath had 12 points.
W Romen scored 11 points for CYLC in this entertaining final match while A James, L Rambo and A Boris managed 10, 9 and 4 points respectively.
Winners WUYC were feted with Rs 7,000 and the title trophy by Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Y Khemchand and runners up CYLC were awarded Rs 4,000 and a trophy by Manipur Basketball Association's president and Education Minister, Th Radheshyam.
