2nd Manipur Olympic Games :: Imphal West emerge Karate, Cycling champions; Imphal East top Archery, seal men's Polo title

Imphal, August 29 2022: Imphal West with a haul of 9 medals including 4 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals, were crowned champions of the 2nd Manipur Olympic Games Karate.

Imphal East amassed 11 medals including 3 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze to settle for the runners up title as Kakching with 2 gold and 1 bronze finished second runners up.

Kata Events
In the women's individual Kata event, Imphal East's Konjengbam Dorita Chanu won the gold and Thoubal's Khomdram Promila Chanu bagged the silver medal. Sh Netrajit Singh of Imphal East clinched the men's kata gold finishing ahead of Laishram Yaiphaba of Imphal West as Th Thoungamba of Bishnupur and Md Afzal Ahmad of Thoubal bagged bronze medals.

Kumite Events
In the women's -50 kg category kumite event Konjengbam Dorita of Imphal East bagged gold beating H Rashi in the all- Imphal East final as N Bishwodiya of IW and Ph Anandi of IE settled for the bronze medals. The men's -50 kg event gold went to Kakching's Soibam James as Thiyam Thoungamba Meetei of Bishnupur bagged the silver.

IE's Ph Nelson and IW's L Bikash won the bronze medals.

Kakching's M Joychandra bagged the -55 kg kumite gold beating Ch Lanchenba of IW as Kh Roshni of Bishnupur sealed women's -60 kg category gold beating Binashakhi Pukhrihongbam of Imphal East in the final.

In the -60 kg men's final, Thongam Suraj of IW bagged the gold beating K Surchandra Lamkang of Chandel while Laishram Yaiphaba of IW bagged the -67 kg gold by overcoming Chakpram Bolendro of Thoubal.

L Premjit bagged the -75 kg gold medal for IW beating Shimngaining M of Ukhrul in the final as Laishram Geetanjali of Thoubal beat Konsam Sylvia of Imphal East and Yumnam Stalin of IW beat Md Imran Sheikh of Thoubal for the women's +61 kg category and men's +67 kg category titles.

CYCLING : Imphal West dazzle in Road Race
IW's rider Konthoujam Runabas clinched the 70 km road race gold for men taking 1 hour, 41 minutes and 59.504 seconds as his compatriot Konthoujam Bishan claimed the silver by finishing the course in 1 hours, 42 minutes and .047 seconds.

Bishnupur's Khundrakpam Ronel won the bronze completing the course in 1 hour, 42 minutes and 42.707 seconds.

The day also saw Imphal West riders sweeping the medals in the women's 35 km road race as Thokchom Helen topped with a time of 1 hour, 6 minutes and 59.100 seconds, Naorem Biseshwori finished second in 1:07:0.956 and Naorem Anita finished third in 1:07:15.864 .

ARCHERY : Imphal East top tally with 7 gold
Imphal East emerged champions of 2nd Manipur Olympic Games Archery competition held at SAIR NERC, Takyel with a haul of 14 medals which include 7 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze.

Thoubal with 4 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals finished runners-up as Kakching with 3 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze medals sealed the third spot.

In the women's Indian Round team event final, Huidrom Rajpriyari, L Tomthinganbi, U Morning Chanu and Sorokhaibam Melody shot of Imphal West beat Thoubal team comprising W Malesori, P Soniya, Kh Harimaya and N Linthoisana 27-26 on shoot-off after the two sides were locked with same 4 points.

The Kakching team emerged third to win the bronze medal.

Meanwhile, IE men's team won the Indian Round gold as Kakching and Imphal West finished second and third.

The IE team comprising K Borish, Th Langamba, Ch Johnson and L Naoton shot 6 points to seal the gold medal.

Equestrian : IE clinch 4 gold
Imphal East were crowned Equestrian champions with 4 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze.

Yesterday, N Luxmi won the Show Jumping title to add a third gold medal to Imphal East's tally as Thoudam Tanna won a bronze. Neelu RK of Imphal West finished second in the event to seal a silver medal.

In the men's Tent Pegging team event, Thoubal team of M Abhigyan, L Rabikanta, I Rahul and Md Wajiuddin Khan won the gold as Imphal East's team comprising Th Ranjan, L Kokeshor, Kh Nongpoknganba and L Rohit Singh won the silver.

The Bishnupur team finished third in the event.

Men's individual Tent Pegging title also went to Thoubal as L Joykumar finished on top.

Y Suraj of Imphal East and L Tomba of Bishnupur finished second and third.

In the men's Show Jumping event, Imphal East sealed the fourth gold as H Pritam emerged on top.

Umesh Gurung of Imphal West and L Tomba of Bishnupur claimed silver and bronze medals in this event.

NETBALL : IE win men's gold, IW-IE named women's joint winners
Imphal East emerged netball champions today with a 32-27 win over Imphal West in the final today as Imphal West and Imphal East were declared joint winners in the women's competition.

Earlier in the day, Tamenglong clinched third place title in the men's competition with a 28-16 thumping of Thoubal today while Thoubal women finished third with a 21-13 beating of Tamenglong women's. POLO : IE emerge men's champions
Imphal East emerged Polo champions with a 4-3 beating of Thoubal in a keenly nip and tuck final encounter today.

Thoubal made the most of the first chukker chances and took a 2-0 lead with goals coming from M Kuber and P Ojit but T Ranjit and L Atangba scored a goal each for Imphal East in the 2nd chukker to make it 2-2 till half way.

After settling a goalless third chukker, Th Jacob scored for the Imphal East side and P Ojit scored in the fourth chukker for the Thoubal team to stretch the game to extra chukker during which Th Jacob scored the winner for the Imphal East team.

VOLLEYBALL : IW vs Bishnupur in Men's final
Imphal West will lock horns with Bishnupur in the men's volleyball final.

Imphal West reached the final with a 25-21, 25-18, 25-21 beating of Kamjong today before Bishnupur saw out Noney 25-13, 20-25, 25-23, 26-24 in another semi-final clash.

Earlier in the quarter finals, Bishnupur beat Thoubal 3-2; Imphal West beat Kakching 3-0; Noney beat Kangpokpi 3-0 and Kamjong beat Chandel 3-0 .

HANDBALL : IW, IE take men's and women's crowns
Imphal West won the men's Handball title overwhelming Thoubal 37-8 in the final as Imphal East prevailed 26-16 over Imphal West to seal the women's crown.

In the men's final, Ksh Lenin's 14 goals and Th Hemanta's 8 goals for Thoubal went into vain as Kh Ratankumar (10), A Tondonba (9) and H Sanatomba (7) led the scoring for Imphal West.

Meanwhile in the women's final, Y Monika (8), Th Bimolata (5), Ch Luxmi (4) and Th Kabita (4) shone for Imphal East while N Sunibala (8) and O Sunibala (4) only made significant contributions to Imphal West's tally.

KHO-KHO : Thoubal claim men's and women's titles
Thoubal claimed both the gold medals in the Kho-Kho competitions held at BASU Ground.

According to our correspondent, Thoubal beat Tamenglong 19-17 to win the men's title before Thoubal women team beat Imphal East women 11-9 for the top honour.
