The victims of December 18, 2016, incident, at Heikru Makhong, expressed their strong resentment at the ill treatment meted out to them despite the Government's decision to release compensation for their properties and items destroyed by the calamity along Imphal-Ukhrul highway .
One of the victim, W Kasomwo, stated that a meeting was held at TNL Hall Viewland, Ukhrul to constitute a committee called the 18th Dec 2016 Heigru Makhong victims committee, to raise their grievances in connection with the delay in the payment of necessary compensation .
According to him, over 600 individuals of Ukhrul district have been duly verified by the authority concerned on two separate occasions namely on May 22 and on August 28 .
In the meeting, the victims members resolved to urge the authority concerned to release the compensation on or before September 30, this year or to give definite time for release of the compensation .
If the State Government fail to address the plight of the victims in time, the committee, in consultation with the State's civil society organizations, would launch various democratic forms of agitation, he added.
