AR foils smuggling attempt

Imphal, March 25 2021:
Assam Rifles foiled smuggling attempt of narcotics and contraband items along Liaching-Parlon-Khongjol-Chandel road axis in Chandel district yesterday.
In an operation, troops recovered large quantity of smuggled goods including poppy seeds bags, Burmese teak wood furniture, betel nut and Chinese cigarettes being carried in 5 vehicles, said a statement issued by PRO Assam Rifles.
11 smugglers were also apprehended along with the items which was worth approximately Rs 4.01 Crore, added the statement.
Smuggled items and smugglers were handed over to Chandel Police for further legal action.
The smuggled goods were carried from across the India Myanmar Border through Chandel for further carrying it to Imphal.
The illegal trade is a threat to the country's economy which is rampant in the region.
Security forces relentlessly working to thwart the design of smugglers, added the statement.
Assam Rifles is playing prominent role for thwarting the increasing smuggling attempts by well coordinated operations in North Eastern states.
