Imphal, August 29 2014 :
26 Sect Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) conducted a Mass Band Display at Pallel.
Three Assam Rifles Pipe Bands playing in unison had an audience of about 500 persons spellbound, with their dazzling moves and music.
The Pipe and Drums are integral to Assam Rifles and trace back their origin to legendary Scottish bands which were an essential component of the ancient armies.
The remote areas of Chandel District have limited entertainment avenues and the Mass Band Display provided an exhilarating experience to the residents of this small township, who came in horde to watch the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Brigadier Rajiv Chhibber, Commander 26 Sector AR, remarked that these interactions were vital to close bonding between the Security Forces and the local populace.
He further highlighted that these events personify in spirit the very motto of Assam Rifles, "Friends of the North East" and assured that many more of such activities shall be planned in future.
The locals who had witnessed this event thanked the Assam Rifles for this friendly gesture and pledged all out support for the Security Forces, PRO IGAR (S) informed in a statement.
