Imphal, April 05 2011:
Veteran MPP MLA O Joy has strongly condemned the irresponsible behaviour of AR personnel which resulted in the death of one Waikhom Mani Devi of Thoubal Nongangkhong Bamon Leirak.
The elderly lady was hit by a bullet when the AR personnel opened fire to celebrate India's victory in the Cricket World Cup final on April 2. O Joy lambasted the firing as an act of indiscipline, bereft of any control.
It is natural for every Indians and Manipuris to feel proud and elated when the Indian cricket team won the World Cup.
"But how could they (Assam Rifles troops posted at Thoubal Tomjing hills) open indiscriminate firing in the name of celebrating the victory?" Joy questioned.
He went on to ask if there was any reason not to register a case against the personnel who opened the fire and penalise him/them for murder under Section 306 of the IPC.
"We strongly condemn the Indian security forces' indiscipline, uncontrollable and arrogant attitude", Joy said.
He further demanded that police should take the accused AR personnel in their custody and punish them according to law.
