Dr Nirmala Chongtham invited for World Bamboo Congress

World Bamboo Ambassador Dr Nirmala
Chongtham, Professor in Department of Botany, Panjab
University, Chandigarh has been invited to give a keynote lecture
in the World Bamboo Congress to be held in Mexico from August
14 to 18.The title of the talk is "The Healing Touch of Bamboo"
where she will be discussing about the traditional knowledge of
healing effects of bamboo which has been prevalent in Asian
culture since centuries followed by scientific studies regarding the
health benefits of bamboo shoots.
She will be soon releasing a book
titled "Bamboo Shoots as a Health Food" which has been funded
by Ned Jaquith Foundation and American Bamboo Society
(USA).
Under her stewardship as Coordinator of the National
Team, the 3rd World Bamboo Workshop is going to be organised
at Imphal from February 4 to 8, 2019 in collaboration with World
Bamboo Organisation, USA and DICMA Trade from Mexico.
Participants from more than 20 countries are expected to
participate in the workshop which is a lecture cum hands on
training event and will be very beneficial for the North East and
in particular Manipur as it is a platform to showcase our bamboo
tradition and also an exposure to the state of art in bamboo
worldwide.

on August 14 during the World Bamboo Congress.
