Congress initiates reconciliation process

Taking serious note of the antagonistic positions adopted by different communities in the aftermath of the Chandel outrage, the ruling Congress party has initiated a number of measures to restore peace and harmony in the State.
Remarkably, many social organisations and politicians belonging to other parties are taking active part in all the initiatives of the Congress party.
As part of the renewed effort, a peace meeting was held today at Langol Tarung under the joint aegis of Thangmeiband Block Congress Committee and Langol Tarung Youth Club.
After the meeting, four resolutions were unanimously adopted.
The resolutions included working together for peace and peaceful co-existence, strongly condemn the Chandel and Napetpalli incidents, to condole the demise of journalist Th Dwijamani who died in police firing while covering an event and Kharibam Sunil who passed away after being assaulted by VDF personnel as well as to attend their shradha ceremonies, to appeal to the people to Manipur to conduct such peace conventions in other parts of the State.
Before the meeting started, the gathering observed a one minute silence in honour of the departed souls of journalist Thangjam Dwijamani who was killed in police firing while covering a protest demonstration against molestation of a film actress by one Livingstone of NSCN-IM, and Kh Sunil who was thrashed to death by VDF.
The peace meeting graced by MPCC president and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam as chief guest was attended by a number of Ministers, MLAs, ADC Members and representative of social organisations.
Addressing the gathering, Gaikhangam highlighted the need on the part of public leaders and social organisations to explain the path to which they are leading the mass.
"There is no boundary for peace.
By creating boundaries, human beings have been negating the real essence and spirit of peace,"Gaikhangam stated.
People of Manipur need to identify the common enemies and fight collectively against such adversaries.
Livingstone, the accused of Chandel outrage would certainly land in the hands of the law one day or the other.
But there is point and benefit in creating animosity and conflict among the innocent people, the Deputy Chief Minister asserted.
He highlighted the importance of sharing concern and care by valley people for the hill people and vice versa.
For this, one need to forget and forgive what happened in the past.
Former Minister Prof.Gangmumei Kamei pointed out that Manipur is a pluralistic society.
He also asserted that it is the responsibility of the Government to maintain and promote social peace in Manipur.
Earlier, NSCN-IM have a conviction of bringing peace through violence but today NSCN-IM leadership are holding peace talk with the Government of India, remarked Prof Gangmumei Kamei.
The process initiated with a dialogue between NSCN-IM general secretary Th Muivah and PMO's Principal Secretary NN Vohra at Bangkok.
Senior Citizens for Society Manipur secretary Khaidem Mani stated that there is need to hold political dialogue among Nagas, Kukis and Meiteis of Manipur.
AMWJU president A Mobi too spoke at the meeting.
