DESAM has banned an Ayurvedic clinic and a pharmaceutical company for using two labels on a single bottle of drug which caused swelling to a patient.
Speaking to media persons at their Keishampat office this evening, DESAM secretary general Arambam Thoithoi said that the Uma Ayurvedic Clinic, Khoyathong run by Dr (Vaid) RN Gupta has been banned for prescribing the drug pasted with two paper labels one above the other which when administered to a patient caused swelling.
On the advice of Dr RN Gupta, Laitonjam Itobi Leima (49) of Mongjam Mamang Leikai was injected the drug labelled VAT VINASAK of 10 ml on September 10.In the next moment, the body part where the Ayurvedic drug was injected started swelling.
Later, another label was found after removing the label pasted on the surface of the bottle.
Although the two labels looked similar, they have different MRPs and manufacturing dates.
Both the labels did not any expiry date, Thoithoi said.
RN Gupta prescribed the drug for three months which should be injected every alternate day.
Thoithoi further said that Bundelkhan Pharma based at Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh which manufactured the drug VAT VINASAK too has been banned in Manipur.
The ban would remain in place until the Ayurvedic clinic and the pharmaceutical company come out with convincing clarifications.
He also appealed to all pharmacists and stockists not to deal in such dubious drugs which have two labels.
