Many extend humanitarian assistance

As part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), a Saarthi Smart Cane Distribution Programme was conducted today at Welfare Association for the Blind Manipur, Takyel SAI Road, Imphal on the theme, "Empowering Independence and Mobility for the Visually Impaired" .
The programme was organised by Blind People's Association, Torchit in collaboration with the Welfare Association for the Blind Manipur.
It was graced by Persons with Disability Manipur, State Commissioner, Waikhom Birahari Singh; Welfare Association for the Blind Manipur, president, Yambem Brajamohon Singh and Blind People's Association, Torchit, co-founder, Prem Kumar as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, Waikhom Birahari said that the visually impaired people will be able to navigate into their dark world and easily & accurately identify the surroundings using the Saarthi Smart Cane.
Waikhom Birahari also assured that as the State Commissioner of Persons with Disability (PwD) Manipur, he will take effective measures to ensure that the persons with disabilities enjoy their rights equally with others.
Later, Saarthi Smart Canes were distributed to about 50 beneficiaries.
Moreover, as part of CSR, Punjab & Sind Bank has provided one Water Cooler with inbuilt UV Filter to TG Higher Secondary School, Imphal today.
The Water Cooler was handed over to Dr Vinita Elangbam, Principal, TG Higher Secondary School.
At the event, Longjam Bishwash Meitei, Sr Manager in-charge of Punjab & Sind Bank, Imphal Branch, Thangal Bazar, said that the water cooler was provided in connection with the 117th Foundation Day celebration of the bank.
He asserted that the assistance was given in recognition of the school's immense contribution in the field of education.
The event was also attended by Luckyson Sangailung Panmei, Manager in-charge, Punjab & Sind Bank, Dewlahland Branch along with staff of Khurai Sajor Leikai Branch and Laipham Siphai Branch.
