Imphal, May 10 2016:
While welcoming the decision of the all political parties meeting to depute a delegation headed by the Chief Minister to New Delhi to urge the Union Government to give assent to the three Bills passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 last year, the JCILPS has stated that it would continue with different modes of agitation.
Speaking to media persons at their Sega Road office this evening, JCILPS convenor Khomdram Ratan urged the delegation to apprise New Delhi convincingly and boldly about the political reality of Manipur where the indigenous people are being overwhelmed by non-local people.
He appealed to the delegation to come back with information and news which would be pleasing to the public.
They should convince all the Central leaders that the indigenous people of Manipur need a Constitutional safeguard to protect themselves from incessant influx.
"We cannot be complacent with the proposed trip of the all-party delegation to New Delhi and there is no question of suspending the ongoing agitation", Ratan said.
Although it has been eight months since the Bills were passed, the Government has done nothing to set up Population Commission, Land Reforms Commissioner or identify non-local people.
All these pending works should be accomplished before the IMC election and the Government should not wait for the election code of conduct to come into force.
Apart from sit-in-protest, torch rallies and formation of human chains, roads would be blocked at different places for specific hours from May 12 till May 18 .
Sagolband-Keithelmanbi road would be blocked on May 12 from 1 pm to 2 pm and this would be followed by protest demonstration.
Likewise, Konung Mamang-Irilbung road, Keishampat-Hiyangthang road, Moirangkhom-Lilong road, Minuthong-Yaingangpokpi road, Chingmeirong-Khonghampat road and Keishampat-Malom road would be blocked on May 13, 14, 15,16,17 and 18 respectively, Ratan elaborated.
JCILPS Students' Wing and Women's Wing would stage different modes of protest demonstration tomorrow too, he added.
