COVID-19 lockdown: Many come out to distribute relief materials

Imphal, Bpr, Tbl April 08 2020: Even as the fear of coronavirus outbreak looms large, many are coming out to extend aids to needy, poor and neighbours to survive the lockdown.

Many social workers, student bodies, civil society organisations, clubs and youths continued to extend aids to people today.

Sekmai Mandal BJP, under the aegis of local MLA Heikham Dingo has extended aids to poor households of Kanglatongbi Ward No 16/1 Mandir, 16/2 Hathikhurwa, 16/3 Santipur, 16/4 Bijoynagar, 16/5 Bazar Board and 16/6 Tispari areas.

Sekmai Mandal BJP president Naobi Nongmaithem said that the relief materials (edible items including rice) were distributed to selected poor households of the areas.

Kanglatongbi Gram Panchayat Pradhan Meena Bista, Up Pradhan Deepa Thapa and Ward Members took part in the relief distribution.

PPCM helps tenants
Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur has distributed aids to tenants, mostly students, at Konung Leikai today.

Volunteers and convenor of PPCM distributed rice, vegetables, salt, potatoes and other relief materials to the stranded tenants.

NEFIS extend aids
North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) today distributed food, essential items and funds to the stranded workers in Bangalore and Kerala, among other places in country.

More than 20 families were provided help during the first day of relief drive, said a statement of NEFIS.

The body has also sought the help of Manipur Chief Minister to release monetary aid for workers and their families from the CM's COVID-19 Relief Fund, it said.

NEFIS will be extending aids to stranded North-East people, its said appealing people for donations and to volunteer towards the cause.

Huikap Relief Committee under the aegis of former Forest Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar Singh donated edible items to nearly 533 households of Huikap, Andro Assembly Constituency, today.

The relief committee was formed by Young Farmers' Club, Huikap; Youth Welfare Association, Huikap Awang Leikai; Youth Development Association, Huikap Makha Leikai, Marup Huikap and local meira paibi lup to meet the challenges presented by the COVID-19.The relief materials including potatoes (5kg), dal (1kg), salt (1.5kg), edible oil (1.5 litre), 1/4 kg of ngari (fermented fish), pepper and a soap were distributed to the locals of Huikap.

The committee lauded all donors and Th Shyamkumar for their contribution.

Bishnupur: Many individuals and organisations in Bishnupur district also distributed edible items and essential commodities to the residents at various locations in the district.

Young girls and Konjengbam Leikai Youths' Welfare Association distributed edible oil, potatoes, pulses and other vegetable items to around 120 households including those living in rent from the club's fund.

CRPF Constable, Naorem Arunkumar Singh, son of N Shamu Singh of Ithai Laikhong Makha Leikai in Kumbi AC also generously distributed edible items to the residents of Ithai Laikhong Mayai and Makha Leikai.

Arunkumar who is posted at 86 Bn CRPF, Lamphelpat distributed the items today at Ithai Laikhong Primary School ground while strictly maintaining social distancing.

Nambol Municipal Council's Vice President, Angom Bimola also distributed edible items such as atta, cooking oil and potatoes to more than 280 households in her ward (No 3) .

Similar programmes were able held at Yumnam Khunou, Leikais under Bishnupur Municipal Council Ward No 10 .

Thoubal: As the lockdown owing to the COVID-19 pandemic continues many sections, organisations and individuals came out to donate and distribute relief materials at various locations of Thoubal, Kakching and Tengnoupal districts today.

In a very encouraging gesture, Ch Sumneichuan Aimol, Head Constable at Manipur Police came out to hand out edible items to around 350 unemployed households to 9 villages under Pallel Aimol Area in Tengnoupal district.

He took up the noble work by expending his salary for three months.

Sumneichuan Aimol maintained that he took up the charitable work to mostly reduce the hardships faced by households with a minimum source of income.

The items he distributed through village authorities include 1 kg of Masoor dal, 1 kg of potatoes and half a litre of edible oil for each household.

He also appealed all the residents of Pallel Aimol Area to follow the guidelines laid down by State Government.

Nongpok Ningthou Youth Association (NNYA) distributed edible items to the residents of Yairipok Top Chingtha for the fourth time in association with Kongbam Ongbi Inaocha Devi, Member of Tulihal Zilla Parishad.

At Salungpham, Sapam Ongbi Loidang Devi who is the Member of the Salungpham Kang Yambem Gram Panchayat Ward No 1 extended helping hand to the residents of her ward by distributing edible items with the help of SEYC, Salungpham volunteers.

Loidang Devi also pledged for more support in the coming days as well.

Meanwhile, Ningthoujam Sarat of Heirok part IIl Ngarouthel also distributed edible items in his locality.

Bamon Leikai Youth Club , Yairipok ( BYCY) also took up similar work with the fund gathered by the club, Meira Paibis and young women of the Leikai for the organisation of Yaoshang Thabal and Sumang Kumhei.

Bamon Leikai Youth Club Yairipok's secretary, Sanjoy Hidam while expressing gratitude to all donors, maintained that the club will continue the same work and serve the needy households in future even if local MLA and other representatives do not pay heed to the need of the poor families which have been compounded by the imposition of the Nationwide lockdown.

Residents of Lembakhul, Ngarangphung villages under Angtha Gram Panchayat also received edible items like onions, potatoes and salts contributed by Pradhan of the GP, Th Manihal along with Member of Ward No 1, K Thambal Devi; Ward No 2, Th Surjit Singh; Ward No 3, K Kananbala Devi and Ward No 4, L Tunal Devi.

Kakching Municipal Council's Vice Chairperson, Kshetrimayum Jhaljit also came out to distribute edible items to around 800 households in his ward (No 11) .

The day also saw staff of Kakching Range under Thoubal Forest Division hand over 1 bag of rice, 10 kg of pulses, 10 litres of mustard oil, 12 kg of onions and 10 packets of salt to the Senior Citizens Home for Women at Thongjao.

N Munal Meitei, Range Forest Officer said that the aid was extended in view of lockdown due COVID-19 .

He also urged everyone to remain at home and maintain social distance to successfully contain the spread of the disease.

Md Sallau, Dy Ranger BO Pallel; N Brojen Singh BO/Waikhong and other staff were also present during the distribution programme.
