Constable shoots colleague to death

A police constable of the 3rd battalion posted at Sahbsein, West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya shot his colleague six times with an SLR rifle on Sunday and fled the scene .
According to the West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police R Muthu, the victim has been identified as Havaldar Litsingh Inghi and the accused has been identified as Constable Lusen Sangma, who hails from Mendipathar in North Garo Hills .
"The incident took place at 1 am today when Hav Inghi along with two of his subordinates were sitting at his room located at the top floor and BNC Lusen Sangma came armed and entered the Hav's room and fired about 6 rounds at the personnel," said Muthu .
It was informed that the shots were fired from a SLR at a very close range and the impact was so powerful that the bullets pierced through the victim's shoulder as a result of which, the victim suffered serious injuries and later succumbed to the bullet wounds in the hospital .
The incident happened at 3rd battalion at Sahbsein, which is about 15 kms from Jowai in West Jaintia Hills .
When asked about the reason, the district police chief said that at this point, they cannot ascertain the facts since the shooter has fled from the scene but it was reported that Sangma was in a drunken state of mind when he committed the crime .
The two subordinates were spared from being shot at though they were present in the same room.
"When Lusen entered the room, he came forward to shake Inghi hand, who was about to have tea with his subordinates (colleagues), and left but after he reached the door, he started opening fire targeting Inghi while the other two managed to run to the corner," Muthu said .
It was also informed that after firing about 6 rounds, the accused fired another 15+ rounds at the ground floor of the building .
In line with this, the police have alerted other district headquarters to arrest the accused if found.
