Anglo-Kuki War Memorial Park inaugurated at Sadiya, Assam

The
Anglo-Kuki War Memorial
Park was officially laid on
Tuesday at Sadiya,
Tinsukia district in Assam
in commemoration of the
brave forefathers who
fought against the mighty
British Empire in the
Anglo-Kuki War of 1917-
1919, which is also known
as "Kuki Rebellion of 1917-
19".
It was a full-scale war
fought bravely and
consistently by the Kukis
for three consecutive years
and prominent Kuki
chiefs were charged with
war crimes and thus
deported to Sadiya in
Upper Assam.
The momentous
occasion began with the
ceremonial unveiling of
the foundation stone by
the Manajyoti Kutum,
ACS, SDO, Sadiya Sub-
Division of Tinsukia
district, who attended as
chief guest, in the
presence of
Thangkhokhup S Kipgen
and Haujakam Chongloi,
Chairman and Secretary,
AKWPMF (Anglo Kuki
War Patriots Memorial
Foundation) respectively
and a mammoth gather-
ing comprising of the
locals of Sadiya, their
gaonburas, student
leaders and some leaders
of the Kuki community
coming from other States
of the North East
including those from
Upper Assam.
Addressing the
gathering, Manajyoti Kutum expressed pride and considered himself blessed
to be associated with the noble venture of setting up the Anglo-
Kuki Memorial Park at Sadiya while Rintu Boro, ACS, Circle
Officer of Sadiya sub-division highly appreciated the initiative of
the Anglo-Kuki War Patriots Memorial Foundation for the re-
markable event.
As a token of love and appreciation, the youth of Sadiya
felicitated the Kuki leaders and other dignitaries with Assamese
traditional Phulam Gomosas while Amirul Islam on behalf of
the youth assured to fully cooperate with the AKWPMF and
render maximum help in whatever way they can.
Earlier on the occasion, after the unveiling of the founda-
tion stone by the chief guest, Haojakam Chongloi, secretary
of the AKWPMF performed the invocatory and dedication
prayer to the Almighty and along with the AKWPMF presi-
dent felicitated the chief guest and other distinguished guests
with colourful Kuki traditional jackets and mufflers.
Speaking at the occasion, Lamhao Doungel, APS, Addi-
tional SP, Tinsukia district, whose role was immense in the
materialization of the project, expressed his contentment and
appreciation to the Govt of Assam for allocating land in
memorial of the great Kuki warriors.
The APS officer also acknowledged the help and coopera-
tion received from the district administration particularly that
of Puru Gupta, IAS, the Deputy Commissioner, Tinsukia;
Diganta Saikia, the Addl DC, Tinsukia and the SDO of
Sadiya sub-division.
In the same breath, Thangkhokhup Kipgen, chairman
AKWPMF, also said that it is not less than a dream come true
since this is the best way to pay tribute to the brave warriors.
The function chaired by Dr Lamkholal Doungel, Chairman
KWS, Dibrugarh, who also offered the vote of thanks said
that, Sadiya is a holy place for the Kukis and its people.
The occasion ended with benedictory prayer from M
Mangcha Haokip, secretary KWS Dibrugarh.
