Imphal, February 26 2016 :
People of Konthoujam, Sagoltongba
(Lansonbi), Awangkhunou, Salam and Luker whose lands have
been affected by Railways project have expressed deep concern
over the wide disparity in fixing of land value.
Speaking to reporters, Railway Affected Farmers of
Konthoujam secretary M Nabakumar said that the Govern-
ment had fixed land compensation amount at Rs 30-40 lakhs
per one Sangam (.62 acre) at Bamdiar, Malom and Yurembam.
However, the Government is planning to provide only Rs
4-5 lakhs per Sangam (.62 acre) at Konthoujam, Sagoltongba
(Lansonbi), Awang Khunou, Salam and Luker.
Questioning why there is huge a disparity while fixing land
compensation amount, Nabakumar expressed strong dissatis-
faction to the Government's move.
Saying that many farmers would become landless after
Railways acquire land for the project, Nabakumar questioned
these landless farmers would be compelled to kill themselves
if they are compensated adequately.
He also urged the Government not to suppress the farmers
for its own convenience.
Nabakumar said that they would stage fast unto death
agitation if they are not adequately compensated.
