In recognition for his outstanding contribution in the field of resource mobilization for socio-economic development in Manipur especially for the farmers, Project Coordinator of Manipur Small Farmers Agri Consortium Mohendro Singh Khaidem has been conferred with the 'Rajiv Gandhi Shiromani Award'.
The award was presented yesterday at Constitution Club, New Delhi on the occasion of 62nd birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi.
A symposium under the theme 'Rajiv's Role in Promoting National Integration' was also held to mark the anniversary where Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson K" Rahman Khan, former Chief Election Commissioner GVG Krishnamurthy and former Tamil Nadu and Assam States Governor Bhisma Narain Singh attended as the chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
The Minister for Education and Tourism, Govt of Delhi inaugurated the programme organized by Global Economic Council, New Delhi.
The Rajiv Gandhi Shiromani Award is conferred to select individuals of the country in recognition of their outstanding contributions and achievements in the field of industry, business, public life, administration, social, educational and cultural services.
Mohendro Singh Khaidem is the only one from Manipur out of 40 other select individuals of the country to be honored with the prestigious award this year.
Among others, Mohendro's chief contributions are successful/regular organization of orange festival, resource mobilization through identification of location of specific crops for socio-economic development programmes in remote areas of the State.
Under the joint initiatives with Reliance Industries Limited, Mohendro had also launched the first ever project of identifying medicinal plants for commercial production and popularization of organic farming, vermiculture etc, among other notable feats, the State Govt's policy.
