Contending that hearing on the construction dispute of Tipaimukh Hydro Multipurpose Project should be done in Manipur where substantial portion of the State would have the severest impact Centre for Organization research and Education (CORE) decried notification of the hearing date (September) at newspapers of Mizoram State only.
Citing newspaper report the CORE also expressed concern that Darlawn village of Mizoram, where the effect would be minuscule compared to Manipur, has been chosen as the hearing venue.
While the people of Tamenglong district of Manipur would have suffer ecological imbalance due to the proposed construction of the dam subsequently having effect upon the livelihood avenues of the effected areas CORE asserted that the hearing site, at all cost, should be shifted to a place within Manipur.
The manner in which the said notification has been published in the most secretive way intent on denying the information to people of Manipur is also direct violation of the Environment Impact Assessment notification issued in 1994 by the Ministry of Environment and forest, charged the organization.
