Imphal, August 23:
Minister Ph Parijat has today appealed to the public to extend their support and cooperation and help in bringing back normalcy in the State which has been badly hit by the ongoing people's agitation.
Speaking at the 56th foundation day of the CPI Manipur, Parijat while stressing about works taken up by the CPI for the removal of AFSPA ever since its imposition in the State asserted that State Govt would face a lot of difficulties if the Act is completely scrapped off as it would mean giving free hand to the insurgents in the State.
He however said that the Govt is ready to help the leaders of the 32 organizations in pressurizing the Central leaders to amend some of the sections contained in the dreaded Act.
Maintaining that the State Assembly cannot just scrapped off an act which had been imposed in the State by the Parliament; Parijat said that it is of no use in calling for an Assembly session for the removal of the dreaded AFSPA as the State Assembly cannot do anything on the matter.
He also said that contradicting demands of the 32 organizations and MAFYF which is a constituent body of the 32 organizations have put the State leaders in a state of confusion.
Mention may be made here that 32 organizations had demanded for resignation of all the Minister while MAFYF had demanded for convening of an Assembly session for discussing on the AFSPA issue.
He also stated that the current agitation can only be solved through dialogue but added that the Govt would be helpless if the leaders of the 32 organization refused to come to the negotiating table and solve the matter.
IFC Minister N Mangi who also spoke at the function said that the protesters by burning Indian flags and engaging in antisocial activities would only make the removal of AFSPA more and more difficult.
