World Book Day observed

Manipur Library Association (MALA) observed the World Book Day along with a book exhibition today at Manipur Public Library, BT Road, Imphal from 2 pm with Dr N Giridhari Singh, Ex-Librarian, RIM, Dr Th Khomdon Singh, Consultant Librarian MU and Kangjam Chaoba Singh, president of MALA attending as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Manipur Library Association (MALA) president Kangjam Chaoba Singh said that the main objective of celebrating World Book Day is to promote books and reading for the personal enrichment as people who read more books knows more and urged everyone to inculcate the habit of reading books.
He also stated that library is the bridge of the past, present and future generation.
The habit of reading and going to library should be developed from an early age and internet cannot take the place of books and if it has been so, "we would be celebrating World Internet Day in place of World Book Day today," he added.
He further stated that it has been more than 27-28 years since the Manipur Library Bill was passed (1988) for development of public library in Manipur, but it has not been translated into action till date and has drawn the attention of the Chief Minister to look into the matter at the earliest.
