Captives rescued

Along with the arrest of two cadres of the underground group, United People's Revolutionary Front (UPRF) with arms, a combined team of Thoubal police and troops of Assam Rifles has secured the release of two persons who were held in captivity by the underground group.
Producing the two arrested UPRF cadres before the media today at Lilong PS, SDPO of Thoubal, T Lalboi Haokip said security forces� Thoubal Commandos, Lilong PS personnel and troops of 40 Assam Rifles, swiftly conducted frisking and checking at Mairenkhul, Kaleikhong and Chaobok after receiving information about the abduction of two persons by the UPRF cadres on Monday around 7pm.

Noticing the suspicious movement of two youth at Chaobok around 9.30pm, the security team stopped them for verification.
When interrogated at the spot, the two confessed that they were cadres of UPRF and holding two persons as hostages, the SDPO said adding they were immediately arrested from the spot.
The police identified the two arrested cadres as Md Anish Khan (25) s/o (L) Abdul Rashid of Lilong Heinou Makhong and Md Riyajuddin (24) s/o Md Abdul of Lilong Kaleikhong.
A 9mm pistol along with four live rounds was recovered from Md Riyajuddin while a mobile phone handset was recovered from the possession of Md Anish, T Lalboi said.
The security forces later rescued the two abducted persons, who were then kept captive somewhere at Chaobok hills, from the clutch of the captors he said.
Saying that the two rescued persons are from Palace Compound, Imphal, the SDPO however did not reveal the identities of the duo.
He said a case has been registered at Lilong PS for investigation.
