Chuk-sumei rites (Zeliangrong Solidarity Day)

The 77th commemoration of Zeliangrong Solidarity Day (Chuksumei rites) was observed under the joint aegis of Zeliangrong Union (ZU) and Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF), Imphal Zone at Zeliangrong building, Kakhulong, here today.
The commemorative event was presided over by vice president of Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) Simon Chawang and the key note address was delivered by general secretary of Zeliangrong Cultural Council R Chandra Haomei.
The commemoration was attended by leaders of ZU, ZYF, ZCCHCP, village elders, youth clubs members and general public of Zeliangrong community.
According to a statement issued by general secretary of ZU Imphal Zone Th Thaimeiching, the historic event of Chuk-sumei rites was first performed by the forefathers of Zeliangrong people 77 years ago on April 1, 1934 at Tamenglong district headquarters and it is being observed every year since then.
The observance signifies a sacred customary rites of cleansing all the sins of inter-village feuds, inter-tribe wars, killings and blood revenges committed in the past centuries and restoration and strengthening of the bond of unity among the tribes with blessings
for brighter future.
