Education Minister, M Oken mourns for Richard Loitam

Imphal, April 30 2012:
Expressing condolence over the death of Richard Loitam, a first year Engineering student in Acharya NRV School of Architecture, Bangalore was allegedly murdered by some of his hostelmates, Minister of Education and CAF & PD M Okendro has shared in the grief of bereaved family and other people of the state.
In a statement, Minister Okendro observed that to identify the culprits involved in the criminal act and take up necessary legal action is the norm of a civilized society and assured that the Government of Manipur would press its Karnataka Government for doing the needful in this regard.
If need be, the Chief Minister would be consulted for seeking the intervention of the Government of India to resolve the case.
It is not the first time that people of North East and particularly the bright students have been targeted.
So, to cover up the incident would only encourage similar crimes in future, Minister Okendro noted, while drawing the attention of the Chief Minister for taking up necessary measures to ensure protection of the Manipuri students studying in other states of India.
