Imphal, April 30 2012:
Accusing the state government of not taking up any initiative in connection with the killing of Loitam Richard in Bangalore, six student organisations of the state are all set to launch a series of protest demonstrations starting from May 4 .
Announcing this during a press conference at the head office of AMSU in DM College campus here today, Th Suresh, President of AMSU said that the six student organisations namely All Manipur Students Union (AMSU), Manipuri Students Federation (MSF), Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students Association (KSA), SUK and SWAK condemned the brutal killing of Loitam Richard in Bangalore following a tiff over changing of TV channel.
But even more embarrassing over the issue is the failure of the state government to take up any initiative to ensure the culprits are punished and ensure protection of the Manipuri students studying in other parts of the country. So, the student community in Manipur have decided to launch a series of agitation starting from May 4 next.
On May 4, sit-in protest demonstrations would be staged in all the educational institutions of the state.
On May 5, the protest demonstration would take the form of human chains and on May 7 there would be a mass protest rally to press the concerned authority to bring out the culprits involved in the heinous crime, Suresh informed.
He further informed that if the state government remains silent even after organising all these democratic agitations, the student organisations would be compelled to take up further course of actions including shutting down government offices from May 8 .
A Thoithoi, Secretary General of DESAM, who was also present at the press conference, appealed to all the people of the state to support the agitations, and said that the proposed agitations are not meant to bring out any issue, but to ensure justice to Loitam Richard.
