Imphal, September 20 2015:
In a bizarre incident, a man who had undergone sinus surgery at JNIMS hospital, allegedly threw up a piece of bandage.
It is said that Sadokpam Somorjit (42) s/o Sadokpam Tondon of Kongba Uchekon is a patient of JNIMS ENT doctor Dr Sudhir Ranjan.
Speaking at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club today, family members said that Somorjit underwent sinus surgery at around 5.30 am on September 4 after he was admitted in the hospital the previous day.
In the early morning of September 5, Somorjit's wife informed nurses that her husband was vomiting blood.
Instead of consoling her, a doctor scolded Somorjit's wife questioning why she was weeping and who told her that her husband was dying, the family members alleged.
On September 6, Somorjit was discharged from the hospital on Dr Sudhir Ranjan's advice, family members said.
On September 10, Dr Sudhir Ranjan examined Somorjit's condition during a routine check-up in the morning.
After reaching home the same day, blood was oozing out from his nose, they said and added that Somorjit was again rushed to JNIMS hospital at around 11 am.
However, the patient's party did not find Dr Sudhir Ranjan in the hospital as he was out of station.
After contacting Dr Sudhir Ranjan over the phone, Somorjit was immediately referred to RIMS hospital, where his treatment continued for five days.
After he was discharged from RIMS hospital, he again started feeling discomfort in his mouth on September 15 .
After some time, to everybody's surprise, Somorjit threw up a piece of bandage, family members said.
Saying that such negligence on the part of medical staff including doctors has become the reason of losing many precious lives, Somorjit's family urged the authority concerned to seriously look into the matter.
Meanwhile, Dr Sudhir Ranjan has clarified that bandage is sometimes used to absorve blood.
He added that Somorjit did not have any complaint of breathlessness even up to six hours after the surgery.
Dr Sudhir Ranjan further clarified that patient's party came to his place and demanded him to compensate all the medical expenses today.
