Manipur Science Congress wraps up, 242 research papers presented

The 3-Day Manipur Science Congress 2024 jointly organised by the Department of Zoology, Manipur University, Canchipur and Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC), Imphal concluded at the varsity today.
The Manipur Science Congress which began on December 13, 2024, was conducted under the sponsorship of Manipur University and Department of Science and Technology (DST), Manipur on the theme, "Science and Technology for Sustainable Manipur" .
The valedictory function held at the Court Hall, Manipur University (MU) was attended by Pro.
Debananda S Ningthoujam, Dean, School of Life Sciences, MU; Prof Sh Dorendrajit Singh, former Dean, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, MU; Dr Pramod Kumar Pandey, Director, Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research, Bhimtal; Dr L Minaketan Singh, Director, MASTEC; Dr Ch Shivaji, Organising Secretary, Manipur Science Congress 2024; Prof N Mohilal Meitei, Director, College Development Council, MU; Prof H Birkumar Singh, Chief Scientist, CSIR NEIST; Dr L Somorjit Singh, former Head, Department of Botany, Imphal College; Prof L Nabachandra Singh, Department of Agronomy, Central Agricultural University, Imphal as presidium members.
The Manipur Science Congress was organised with the aim to provide a common forum for discussion and collaboration among researchers in various fields of science towards a sustainable future; provide a platform for researchers to showcase their research findings to a wider audience; find key measures for a sustainable, self-sufficient and viable Manipur.
Altogether, 242 research papers were presented in oral and poster formats under five sub-themes- "Biological Diversity and Conservation, Biomolecules and Biotechnology", "Regenerative Technologies, Agriculture and Allied Sciences", "Physical, Chemical, Mathematical, Computational and Engineering Sciences", "Ecology, Environmental, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences" and "Health, Medical and Anthropological Sciences" .
The winners of the best oral presentation are- N Hemeshwor, Zoology Department, MU; Th D Songomsing Chiru, Zoology Department, MU; M Haripriya Devi, Botany Department, MU; Ng Piloo, College of Agriculture, CAU, Iroisemba; Atom Anupama Devi, Pandit Deen Dayal Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Utlou; Jerina Soibam, Department of Chemistry, GP Women's College, Imphal; Priya Khumukcham, Department of Environmental Sciences' DM University, Imphal; and Jinita Lourembam, Department of Zoology, MU.
Winners of poster paper presentation are - S Samita, Department of Zoology, MU; Thonbamliu Abonmai, Department of Zoology, Dhanamanjuri University, Imphal; Dinesh Thokchon, College of Agriculture, CAU, Iroisemba; Soibam Jogita Devi, Physics Department, Biramangol College, Sawombung; Sharungbam Lousingleima, Department of Zoology, MU; Naorem Loya Mangang, Department of Zoology, MU and Thokchom Bidyalakshmi Devi, Department of Zoology, MU.
The best paper presentation award was sponsored by Hungyo Worshang, Secretary (Sc & Tech), Government of Manipur.
Moreover, Keisham Dony Devi of CAU, Iroisemba received the Young Scientist Award of Manipur Science Congress 2024 On her research paper entitled, "Sustainable Agronomic Practices to Mitigate Greenhouse Gas Emission from Rainfed Rice".
The award was sponsored by Dr L Minaketan Singh, Director, MASTEC in honor of his (late) brother, Loitongbam Khogendro Singh of Langjing Achouba, Imphal West.
