CM inaugurates 'School Fagathansi' in five schools

Imphal, February 12 2020: Chief Minister N Biren Singh officially inaugurated the State Government's 'School Fagathansi Mission' in five different Government schools today.

The mission was launched on January 18 last year to give a facelift to Government schools by developing modern infrastructure and deputing adequate manpower to enhance enrolment.

In the first phase of the mission, one Government school each in all the 60 Assembly Constituencies of the State were selected for upgradation as model schools.

All these schools would be run and developed in a uniform pattern.

The schools where the ambitious mission was inaugurated today were Moirangpurel High School and Heingang High School in Imphal East district and Singjamei Chingamakha High School, Praja High School, Lamshang and SK Ideal High School, Ngairangbam in Imphal West district.

The Chief Minister briefly visited all these schools one after another and inaugurated the mission in the presence of huge number of locals.

However, the main inauguration function was held at SK Ideal High School, Ngairangbam with N Biren Singh as the chief guest.

Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Y Khemchand, Forest and Environment Minister Th Shyamkumar, Education Minister Th Radheshyam, Manipur Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker K Robindro, State Planning Board Deputy Chairman S Rajen, Tourism Corporation of Manipur Ltd.

Chairman Dr S Ranjan and MLAs Md Abdul Nasir, L Rameshwor and Th Satyabrata were also seated on the dais as dignitaries among others.

Today's inauguration marked the dedication of newly developed infrastructure under the mission to public for which foundation stones were laid on August 17 last year by the Chief Minister in a joint ceremony held at the Chief Minister's Secretariat.

Speaking on the occasion, N Biren Singh stated that adequate fund for the School Fagathansi mission had been included in the State Budget.

A sum of Rs 43 crore had been earmarked in the Revised Estimate (RE) and another Rs 25 crore in the Budget Estimate, he said.

With the introduction of the mission, there has been a steep increase in the enrolment of students in Government schools, the Chief Minister informed.

He further stated that under the mission, two schools located in Kasom and Chandel would also be inaugurated soon.

The Chief Minister maintained that monthly review meeting would be held to track progress and identify needs of the schools run under the mission.

After the inauguration of 60 schools in each Constituency of the State in the first phase, another 60 schools would also be identified soon for the next phase.

Emphasising on the need to change the education pattern of the State, the Chief Minister said the system should be such that children can be nurtured to make them responsible citizens and job creators rather than producing students who aspire to seek only Government jobs.

He said that after the launch of Manipur Startup scheme, many educated youth had become successful entrepreneurs.

Stating that the objective of the present Government is to work for the welfare of the people, the Chief Minister stated that various humane-oriented welfare schemes had been introduced.

Under CMHT, the Government had distributed CMHT cards to around 6.70 lakh people of the State while around 14,000 drop-out students had been enrolled again in different schools under 'Lairik Tamhanlasi' scheme.

He thanked the people of the State for their endless support and co-operation to the Government towards the development of the State.

Speaking on the occasion, Education Minister Th Radheshyam said that the mission would definitely become a great success as it is being run under a proper guideline unlike other initiatives implemented in the past.

The Minister also said that the mission had been conceptualised by the Government with a firm commitment, a clear vision and a strong determination to transform the Government schools and bring a change in the pattern of educating children.

The Minister opined that teachers should not only focus on securing good marks by students but also put in effort to make them good and responsible citizens who have the zeal to serve the society.

He further said that children should be dealt with utmost love, care, protection and guidance instead of forcing them to do what the parents and teachers wish.

Commissioner (Education) T Ranjit and Director (Education) Th Kirankumar were also present at the function.
