Safe drinking water for all ACs : Dikho

PHED Minister Losi Dikho has said that all necessary steps would be taken up to ensure the availability of safe drinking water in all the 60 constituencies of the State.
He made the statement during a visit to various areas of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa for inspection of water supply schemes and potential sites for implementation of the said schemes accompanied by the constituency's MLA and PHED officials.
Speaking to media persons, the Minister said that instead of launching schemes for few specific areas, the Department would discuss steps and measures to provide clean and safe drinking water facilities to all the 60 constituencies of the State.
He also pointed out that the Department would take serious note of the water supply schemes present in the different constituencies, identify the functioning and defunct ones and take up necessary steps to improve the availability of drinking water taking into account the population of the specific area.

Dikho stated that awareness programmes would be organised to make the people aware of the need to keep areas near water supply schemes neat and clean to prevent water borne diseases and assured to provide proper waste disposable locations or dustbins near the installations.
"It is the duty of both the public and the Government to keep the areas neat and clean", Dikho added.
According to Naoriya Pakhanglakpa MLA S Subhaschandra, the people of the constituency have been facing acute shortage of safe drinking water for a long time.
He assured that BJP is trying its level best to ease the suffering of the people and expressed belief that drinking water facilities would be made available within this year.
The water supply scheme located between Haobam Marak Ngangom and Keisham Leikai, Sangaiprou Mamang Water supply scheme, Malom Tuliyaima water supply scheme, Lairenjam water supply scheme, Kodompokpi Mamang Leikai Accelerated Rural water supply scheme, and Langthabal Phuramakhong water supply schemes were inspected during the trip.
A proposal was floated for establishing a water supply scheme at Hiyangthang Maning Aheibam Pukhri.
It may be noted that the PHED Minister visited Konthoujam constituency recently and assured development of the water supply schemes at the area.
He also visited the locations of Imphal Sewage project undertakings and the sewage treatment plant located near Langol and assured completion of all pending projects within a period of three months.
