Hawker's son cracks NEET

Defying all odds, son of a newspaper hawker Laikhuram Malemnganba has secured second position in the State merit list of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) .
Malemnganba has been surrounded by well-wishers, friends and relatives ever since the results were declared.
His father Laikhuram Shyamkumar alias Chaoba of Shamushang Uku Sana Leirak on U-K road has been a newspaper hawker since the past 32 years.
Malemnganba scored 513 out of total 720 total marks in the examination.
Despite many financial difficulties, Shyamkumar and his wife Bina educated their son at Sainik Foundation School from Nursery to Class V .
The couple put in their full effort in shaping the career of their son and that probably helped Malemnganba crack the entrance test of Sainik School, Imphal as well in Class V .
As such, he studied in the school from Class VI to IX.
Later, he shifted to Pari Imom Sindamshang, Langjing and Malemnganba passed his Class X from the school under Board of Secondary Education, Manipur.
Later, he continued his studies at Comet School, Ghari and passed his Class XII in 2014 .
He cracked NEET in his third attempt securing second position in the State merit list this year.
Malemnganba said that after his failure in the first attempt, he did not lose heart but increased his work.
He said that he went to coaching in the morning and studied eight to 10 hours a day to achieve the feat.
Giving credit of his success to the Almighty, parents, MECI teachers and batchmates, Malemnganba said that it could not have been possible without their support.
He said that although his first preference is Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, he does not have any problem with other institutes according to the convenience of his family.
Shyamkumar, who is very pleased with his son's success told The Sangai Express that he faced lots of financial problems while shaping Malemnganba's career.
However, he was determined that he would never compromise with his son's education, Shyamkumar said with a smile.
Bina said that Malemnganba's success has given them a morale boost to put in more effort to support their son.
She wished her son to serve the society after he becomes a doctor.
To aspring NEET aspirants, Malemnganba suggested they study Biology as thoroughly as possible.
For Physics and Chemistry, students need to study maximum number of past questions of National level examinations.
This would enable the aspiring candidates to predict possible questions, he said.
Malemnganba said that he wants to show his utmost respect to his teachers Kamlakanta and Tejkumar who inspired him to crack NEET when he was studying Class XII .
