Imphal, August 05 2014:
Students of Government Ideal Blind School, Takyelpat have commenced an indefinite class boycott from today.
According to the finance secretary of the school students' union, J Ruben, the step was taken as a result of the Governments indifference towards their demands.
Earlier in August 19, 2013, Ruben added, a memorandum was submitted to the Social Welfare Minister with a list of demands from the students, Ruben told reporters.
The memorandum demanded the Government to provide a vehicle to be used in medical emergencies.
It further demanded distribution of Braille text books, regular commencement of classes, a park for the school children and pucca footpath inside the school campus.
The Government however turned its deft ears towards their demands, he added.
On March 7, 2014, therefore, the students resubmitted the memorandum to the Social Welfare Minister adding some other demands, Ruben informed.
The memorandum demanded filling up of 11 vacant posts in the school including Mathematics and English teachers, cook and female attendants.
The demands were, however, left unanswered.
Therefore, the finance secretary added, the students have started class boycott from today until their demands are met.
