Senapati, August 31 2020:
The Senapati District Student's Association (SDSA), in a statement, has slammed the State Government for 'failing' to fulfil its assurance even after repeated reminders and appeals.
While endorsing the demands placed by three main tribal students' bodies - All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM), Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) GHQ and the All Naga Students' Association Manipur (ANSAM), the SDSA urged the Government of Manipur to imple- ment the charter of demand submitted by the tribal bodies on August 13, 2019 .
SDSA also specifically mentioned the failure of the Education Minister to upgrade Senapati Upper Primary School to a high school till date.
Even though there are 34 villages in Senapati district headquarters areas, there is not a single Government high school, it said.
The prolonged negligence of the concerned department to address such a vital issue of Senapati district is indeed "unfortunate & anti-people", it stated.
Supporting the demands of the three tribal students' bodies, SDSA noted that Government of Manipur has not been able to respect the grievances of the tribal populace and fulfil people's cry to improve education and health sectors in the hill districts.
SDSA warned that they will root for the issues raised by the three tribal bodies and will join together in any form of democratic agitation called by the three student's bodies after the deadline.
The demands for proper healthcare services and a good education system are fundamental rights which cannot be denied to tribal communities, it concluded.
