Bandh affects normal life

On the first day of the 48 hrs bandh called by the Joint Action Committee against the killing of Heitlungshel Khaling @ KH Maring of Nungourok Village normal life in Chandel District was affected today.
A large number of bandh supporters of different communities including women blocked the Imphal - Moreh section of National Highway No.102 at Nungourok Village and Laimanai chingjin using benches, bamboos and woods since early morning.
As a result, vehicular movement along this section of National Highway came to a standstill.
However, emergency and essential services like media, patients carrying vehicles, religious related programs were exempted during the bandh.
During the bandh, a member of Autonomous District Council Chandel as well as the Deputy Commissioner Chandel and his escort team who come from Imphal separately were also not allowed to pass through by the bandh supporters.
The bandh supporters also halted a police vehicle for carrying some civilians and allowed to proceed after all the civilians were made to alighted from the police vehicle.
And there is no report of any violent incident happened during the bandh till filing of this report.
While speaking at the sideline of the bandh, K.Modon Maring, Member of the JAC said that the 48 hrs bandh on Imphal - Moreh section of National Highway No.102 was enforced by the JAC in protest against the killing of Heitlungshel Khaling @ KH Maring and failing on the part of the State Government to fulfill the demands of the JAC.
He further said that the JAC will not accept the dead body which was still laying at JNIMS Morgue until the State Government fulfill the Charter of demands.
He also warned to continue indefinite bandh if the State Government not response positively at the earliest.
