Dimapur, June 30 2014:
Stray incidents marked the 12-hour Dimapur bandh today imposed by Nagaland Foothill Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) in protest against the alleged state government's flip-flop decision on awarding the contract work of the foot hill roads to certain contractors.
The bandh also severely affected the service of public transports both from Manipur and Assam.
The bandh concluded at 6 pmamid the Section CrPC 144 promulgation in Dimapur district.
Stone pelting between the bandh supporters and those with opposing the bandh marked the scenes.
Police have to resort to shelling of tear gas in various parts to calm the situation.
However, there was no serious trouble reported anywhere in connection with the bandh.
All the private educational institutions were badly affected by the bandh.
The attendance percentage of government offices by the employees was also almost nil in most of the offices.
The otherwise roaring business of this Nagaland commercial hub came to a grinding halt.
Meanwhile, 5th Mile area witnessed large number of two groups of people pelting stones against each other.
Police have to resort to lathi charged and tear gas shell firing to the mob.
It can be noted here that the idea of construction of the Nagaland Foothill roads dates back to the 1970s.The people og Nagaland have to pass through a long section of Assam when they travel between Dimapur and the distrcts of Mokokchung, Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire, Longleng and Zunheboto.
Very often commotions between the people of Assam and that of Nagaland crop up whenever the former call bandh.
