No faith in drafting committee : MPP

Imphal, July 28 2015: MPP has categorically stated that it has no faith in the committee formed at the initiative of the State Government to draft a new Bill for protection of indigenous people of Manipur.

Speaking to media persons at their office here this afternoon, MPP president N Sovakiran stated that his party supports the mass movement being spearheaded by JCILPS as well as the general strike called by the JAC constituted against the killing of Sapam Robinhood.

But MPP has no faith in the drafting committee's chairman.

Chairman of a sub-committee of all political parties committee formed earlier had maintained that ILPS had been already enforced for them and their land was protected by the Constitution.

The chairman of the drafting committee is someone who supports immigrants from Bangladesh and Pakistan.

When such a man is the chairman of the drafting committee, MPP finds it hard to keep any faith in the committee, Sovakiran said.

He, nonetheless, appealed to the committee to work sincerely and transparently in the larger public interest.

The 15 year old Government has been managing the State's administrative affairs like a Chamber of Commerce.

On account of its ineptness to handle issues, public issues are multiplying every day.

Commenting on the Sekmai Dam which has been washed away by torrential rain a few days back, Sovakiran pointed out that it was Chief Minister O Ibobi himself who stated on the floor of the House that the dam was constructed at the cost of Rs four crore with due emphasis on the qualitative aspect.

Many other bridges/dams built over Iril river and Canchipur collapsed before the constructions works were completed or soon after completion, he pointed out while questioning who should be held accountable.

In all these instances, the Government never took up any action against the culprits.

Given such precedences, it is unlikely that the Government would ever punish those police personnel involved in the killing of Sapam Robinhood.

MPP Youth Front president Machang Soibam demanded the Government to clarify whether prolonged detention of students in connection with the ILPS movement is justified or not.
