Imphal, August 26 2024: The proscribed PREPAK has claimed its hand in shooting one Laishram Thoiba Singh (28) s/o L Iboyaima Singh of Thanga Khunjem Leikai on his left buttock on August 24 at Moirang Khunou Primary School Khongnang Lambi Awang Leirak.

According to a press release issued by the outfit's publicity officer Mangal Khuman, Laishram Thoiba was punished for hanging his wife to death.

It was said that Thoiba's wife Ningthoujam (Ningol) Sophia (25) of Thanga Salam Leikai committed suicide by hanging herself from a tree (Yongchak) on February 25, 2016 .

But post mortem report revealed that there were bruises and injury marks on the head, neck and back of Sophia, the outfit said.

Before Sophia was found dead, Thoiba subjected her to all kinds of atrocities and harassment, according to the outfit.

In connection with the death of Sophia, Thoiba was arrested by police and he was imprisoned for around one year.

All this while, PREPAK had been investigating the case.

On learning about the release of Thoiba, the outfit summoned him but he never came until the outfit's Special Task Force pulled him up from his home on August 23 .

During interrogation in the outfit's custody, Thoiba reportedly admitted that he killed Sophia in collusion with his family members.

The outfit said that Thoiba was awarded a light punishment by shooting on the buttock on humanitarian ground.

It added that PREPAK would always stand firm against violence against women.
