Silence period begins

Imphal, February 26 2022:
Silence period for the first phase of State Assembly election which falls on February 28 (Monday) came into effect from 4 pm today.
Altogether 38 Assembly Constituencies - Imphal East (10 ACs), Imphal West (13 ACs), Bishnupur (6 ACs) , Kangpokpi (3 ACs) and Churachandpur (6 ACs) will go to poll in the first phase.
Altogether 173 candidates including 15 women will contest in the first phase of election while 12,15, 814 voters including 173 transgenders will exercise their franchise at 1718 polling stations.
Some of the key figures who will contest in the first phase include Chief Minister N Biren Singh (Heingang AC), Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Y Khemchand (Singjamei AC), Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar (Uripok AC) and MPCC president N Loken (Nambol AC) .
Reportedly, necessary measures have been taken up to station all the polling officials at their respective polling stations.
