Imphal, February 26 2022:
All Manipur Contractors' Association has expressed concern that the works of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Phase I and II would not be completed as promised owing to non release of funds by the State Government at the appropriate time.
The convenor of the association, Thangjam Somarendra elaborated on the issue during a press conference held at Manipur Press Club today jointly organised by the association, Manipur Hill and Plain Contractors' Association ,All Tribal Contractors' Association and All Manipur PWD Contractors' Association.
He further stated that the India Government has announced that PMGSY, Phase I and II will be completed by September this year however considering the present scenario, it is impossible to fulfill the same.
Expressing discontent over the delay of release of funds by the State Government by two to three months though the Central Government releases the funds on time, he said that it has hindered the construction works considerably which is really unfortunate.
The Central Government had announced that works will be completed by September this year but due to non-release of funds by the State Government, a major portion of the work remains incomplete, he added.
Stating that the phase 3 of PMGSY will be taken up after the completion of phase 1 and 2, he appealed to the authorities concerned to release the pending funds at the earliest in the interest of all.
He also spoke about the plights of the contractors who are engaged in the work of the scheme.
Therefore to ramp up the work and to enhance road connectivity as promised under the scheme, he urged the Government to look into the matter at the earliest.
